Two Kachin volunteer teachers, Maran (20) and Tangbau (21), who were teaching in a village in Northern Shan state for Kachin Baptist Convention's Literature Mission Project for 2014-15. They were raped and brutally killed yesterday in the village that they had been teaching. Local sources report that the Burmese army soldiers based near the village, either 202nd and 203rd Light Infantry Battalions led by Maj. Aung Soe Myint or 503rd Light Infantry Regiment under Kyaukme-based 1st Military Operations Command, are responsible for this heinous crime. The two volunteer teachers were left naked with severe bruises and marks on their bodies which appear to indicate that they had been beaten to death after being raped. A villager said when they arrive at the murder scene, Burmese soldiers stood about a furlong away from the two naked bodies.
We apoligize for showing graphic pictures, but we believe that the pictures depict the reality of Kachin people in Burma.
