The Path to Peace in Kachin State
A panel discussion on the conflict situation in Kachin State, Myanmar
and an analysis of efforts to forge sustainable peace between the
government and the Kachin Independence Organization and other ethnic
nationality groups.
The panel is timed with the release of the report "State Terror in Kachin Hills"
by the Kachin Women's Assocation of Thailand (KWAT) documenting Burmese
military abuses against civilians since the onset of the war in June
2012 and the massive displacement of internal refugees.
Panelists include Julia Marip of the Kachin Womens Association of
Thailand, Dr. Decha Tangseefa, Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat
University and James Lin, Director Southeast Asia Desk, International
Federation for Human Rights (FIDH).
A trailer will be screened
from the forthcoming documentary about the Kachin people's culture and
resistance to military abuse produced by Ryan Libre, founder of
Documentary Arts Asia.
