Lt-Gen Yawdserk, leader of the Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) revealed that the ceasefire treaty which had been agreed upon is on the verge of collapsing since the Burmese army are violating the contract, SHAN news reported.
He stressed that both the government and the army must work together so as to uplift and boosts the morale of the people who been under this hostile period for many months now. More importantly, dialogues must likely be taken immediately to ensure the safety, protection and welfare of the people and the trust for the government will be restored back.
Additionally he mentioned that there was no improvement done since he met with U Aung Min, “Minister Without Borders” in Chiangrai last November 19, 2011. Attacks have been experienced by the group 32 times. Agreements done last January were not met like the resettlement of 1,000 families of their fighters to Mongtaw-Monghta because the people who were expected to prepare the relocations were not permitted to go to any place.
With regards on drug related issue, no exact agreement has been discussed last October 28 at the Tachilek meeting. The government must initiate every move for peace since they called for it.
Considering that all groups who have managed to deal with the government of Myanmar have recognized and accepted the agreement, they have created liaison offices in areas which are a bit dangerous, advisory and consultations on peace process has been opened to the public, and calling the urgency of police to help in case problem occurs have benefitted them.
They pointed out on the government that always break the agreement. For instance the hostility that occurred between the government and the Shan State Army (SSA) North as well as the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
But then again with all their hope to settle their disagreements, both parties are set to meet this month to be held in Taunggyi, Shan State capital. No specific date has been determined, SHAN report said.
According to U Aung Min, also Vice Chairman of the Union Peacemaking Work Committee, the government has not given out any source of funding with his advocacy on peace process but he spend out his own money.
He received his first payment in the amount of Euro 700,000 only last week when European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso came to visit Myanmar. Another 30 million euro will be given to him for his peace process program in the forthcoming years.
