Two officers and 16 soldiers from a Burma Army unit surrendered to the Shan State Army on June 7, 2014. They said they did not want to fight and die meaninglessly as forced by their senior officer. All their weapons were handed to the SSA. The SSA supported them with money and helped them reach the Thai border and find employment. These Burmese soldier are now happily working and also in contact with their relatives.
