The Three Kachin Activists Sentence For Saving Civilians Lives

Today, the 29th times of the court hearing the three Kachin activists who helped more than two thousands of the innocent civilians to escape from the midst of conflict have sentenced under article 500 for six months imprisonment with hard labour and 500,000 kyats for defamation of Burma Military.
In early April 2018, the intensify armed clashed between KIA (Kachin Independence Army) and Burma Military displaced more than 5000 civilians, 2000 of whom were trapped for several weeks without humanitarian assistance and safety near the Aung Lawt village in Tanai Township, Kachin State. In the meantime, Kachin youth organizations, churches, and local organizations sent the open letter to the government and Burma Military, however; there was no action had taken.
In 30th April 2018, Kachin youth led the peaceful rally which called "Kachin Youth Movement" for saving thousands of the innocent civilians, and the rally peacefully ended. After the next day, the three activists Mr Lum Zawng (Kachin Youth Movement leader), Ms Nang Pu (Director of the Htoi Gender and Development Foundation and Mr Zau Jet (Chairman of The Kachin National Social Development Foundation) were made the statement of the peaceful rally and commented on the ill-treatment of civilians by Burma Military in the press conference. The colonel Myo Min U (Burma Army's Northern Regional Command) prosecuted against the three Kachin activists for defamation of Burma Military though they were saving lives and defenders of human rights.
All in all, the final verdict of civil court reflects the influence of Burma Military in the justice system of Burma has still extremely strong and, it is proving that Burma government and Burma Military lead back the country to the dictatorship and also ruining the genuine peace process of Myanmar for Democracy.
