ကခ်င္ႏွစ္ျခင္း ခရစ္ယာန္အသင္းေခါင္းေဆာင္ႏွစ္ဦးျဖစ္သူ သင္းအုပ္ဆရာ ဦးေနာင္လတ္ႏွင့္ လူငယ္တာဝန္ခံ ဦးဂမ္ဆိုင္းတို႔ကို မတရားအသင္းဆက္သြယ္မႈပုဒ္မ ၁၇/၁၊ အသေရဖ်က္မႈပုဒ္မ ၅၀၀ႏွင့္ ပို႔ကုန္သြင္းကုန္ဥပေဒတို္႔ျဖင့္ ယေန႔ျပစ္ဒဏ္ခ်မွတ္လိုက္ျခင္းအေပၚ မိမိတို႔က စိုးရိမ္မိပါသည္။ ကခ်င္ျပည္နယ္ႏွင့္ ရွမ္းျပည္နယ္ ေျမာက္ပိုင္းတို႔တြင္ ျဖစ္ပြားေနေသာတိုက္ပြဲမ်ားႏွင့္ ရြာသားမ်ားအေပၚ တပ္မေတာ္က က်ဴးလြန္မႈမ်ား အေၾကာင္းကို ရန္ကုန္မွ လာေရာက္သတင္းယူေသာ သတင္းေထာက္မ်ားအား သူတို႔ကကူညီအၿပီး ဒီဇင္ဘာ ၂၄ တြင္တပ္မေတာ္က သူတို႔ကို ဖမ္းဆီးခဲ့ကာ တစ္လၾကာ မည္သူႏွင့္မွ် ေတြ႕ခြင့္မရဘဲ ထိန္းသိမ္းခံခဲ့ရပါသည္။ သတင္းစာဆရာမ်ားအား ကူညီခဲ့ျခင္းအတြက္ သူတို႔ကို ပစ္မွတ္ထားသည့္အေပၚ မိမိတို႔က စိုးရိမ္ပါသည္။ သူတို႔အား ထိန္းသိမ္းထားစဥ္ ညႇဥ္းပန္းခံရသည္ဟူေသာ စြပ္စြဲခ်က္မ်ားအေပၚတြင္လည္း စိုးရိမ္မကင္း ျဖစ္ရပါသည္။ ႏိုင္ငံသားမ်ားကို တရားမဲ့ ဖမ္းဆီးႏိုင္ေသာ မတရားအသင္းဆက္သြယ္မႈဥပေဒႏွင့္ တျခားေသာ ဥပေဒမ်ားအား သံုးစြဲျခင္းကို ရပ္ဆိုင္းပါရန္ မိမိတို႔က ပန္ၾကားပါသည္။ ထို႔ျပင္ သက္ဆိုင္သူအားလံုးက ယံုၾကည္မႈကို တည္ေဆာက္ၿပီး ျမန္မာႏိုင္ငံကို ၿငိမ္းခ်မ္းေရးႏွင့္အမ်ဳိးသား ရင္ၾကားေစ့ေရးလမ္းေၾကာင္းေပၚမွာ ဆက္လက္ေလွ်ာက္လွမ္းရန္လည္း မိမိတို႔ပန္ၾကားအပ္ ပါသည္။
U.S. Embassy Statement on Sentencing of Kachin Baptist Leaders

We are concerned about the sentencing today of two religious leaders from the Kachin Baptist Church, pastor Nawng Latt and youth leader Gam Seng, under article 17/1 of the Unlawful Association Act, section 500 of the penal code for criminal defamation, and the Export Import Act. They were detained by the military on December 24 and held incommunicado for a month after helping reporters from Yangon investigate continued reports of fighting and military abuses against villagers in Kachin State and northern Shan State. We are concerned that these individuals were targeted for assisting journalists. We are also concerned about allegations of mistreatment during their detention. We call for the end of the use of the Unlawful Association Act and other laws used to arbitrarily arrest citizens, and we call on all actors to build trust and keep Myanmar on the path toward national peace and reconciliation.
